The Salveson Ski Group has a firm and open commitment to child protection and has adopted procedures and practices that will minimise the risk of a child being abused whilst in our care i.e. during the trip to the National Centre for Disabled Skiers in the USA. Child protection involves protecting children from the risk of harm caused by sexual abuse or misconduct, physical abuse, emotional abuse or neglect. This is achieved by:
Interviewing volunteers, taking references, and carrying out a CRB check before offering appropriate training in child protection, health and safety and responsibilities on such a trip.
Having made a firm commitment to child protection that is understood and supported by everyone involved in the trip (the organisers, volunteers, children and parents/guardians).
Providing a safe, open, and honest environment that protects children as well as the volunteers / helpers. This includes creating an awareness of the risk of child abuse and openly discussing the need for child protection.
Adopting policies and practices that minimise the risk of child abuse.
Swiftly and appropriately responding to any incident of suspected child abuse. Volunteers will be required to write a report on any discussions, allegations or suspicions using a standard Child Abuse Report Form.
Appointing a Child Protection Officer for each trip, who would be the main point of contact for a child or volunteer.
Reviewing the Child Protection Policy annually.
Further information can be found in the AMA Safer Working Practice Guidelines document - this gives a much more detailed view / understanding of our basic rules. You are encouraged to read this document.
