To ensure that all forms of abuse are prevented, and to help protect volunteers, who come on this trip, the following guidelines should be followed:
Always be publicly open when working with children.
Try to avoid situations where you and an individual child are completely unobserved, where possible.
If a child needs to be touched, it should be provided openly and carefully.
Volunteers must respect the rights and dignity and worth of all and treat everyone equally.
Volunteers must display high standards of personal behaviour and appearance.
Engage in rough physical or sexually provocative games including horseplay.
Permit or engage in any form of inappropriate touching.
Permit children to use inappropriate language unchallenged.
Make sexually suggestive comments to a child even in fun.
Allow allegations made by a child to go unchallenged, unrecorded or not acted upon.
Do things of a personal nature that a child can do for itself. However some young and disabled children will need help, and such tasks should be carried out then with the consent of the parents/guardians.
