SSG Trip 2009 Volunteers
Lives: Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire Likes: Cycling, walking, skiing Dislikes: Nothing Occupation: Retired GP. I run this charity and I am the doctor for another major charity. Comments: I will be running this trip and acting as Team Doctor. I will also be the main contact point for all Young People. I have done 5 trips in the past and love skiing with the group as much as I did on the first trip. I look forward to getting a chance to ski with you all in February. |
Lives: Portsmouth, Hampshire Likes: Snowboarding, Mountain Climbing, Motor Sports Dislikes: Most green vegetables! Occupation: Helicopter Test Pilot for the Royal Navy Comments: I will be assisting with the running of the trip and I am the coordinator for the volunteers. I am a keen snowboarder (although I can ski) and I am learning to be an Adaptive Snowboard instructor. I am actively involved with Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK) as well. This is my third trip with Salveson and I am really looking forward to going to America with you all. YP: Ryan |
Lives: Paignton, Devon Likes: Skiing, Honey - our Labrador puppy Dislikes: Gooseberries, Automated Answer Phones! Occupation: Policy Lead for Children with the South West Health Authority Comments: I have been a registered children's nurse since 1985, many years spent in hospitals and working as a community manager for children with complex care needs. I am now the Policy Lead for Children and Young People with the South West Strategic Health Authority, responsible for ensuring children receive the care they need from their Primary Care Trusts. I am a very keen skiier and supported the trip to Winter Park in 2007 as the team nurse. I am really looking forward to this coming trip so that John can teach me how to ski in powder! I have a 19 year old son who is now at Universtity studying Sports who wants to join the Royal Marines. He is going to "give me away" when John and I marry in May, which he says he is looking forward to! |
Lives: Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire Likes: Socialising, working hard Dislikes: Snowboarding and running Occupation: Youth Worker Comments: This is my third trip with SSG and I am still learning to stand up on my snowboard so no doubt you'll all pass me on the slopes! I run an advice centre for young people and have recently completed my degree in Youth Work. YP: Faatimah |

Dislikes: Wasps Occupation: I run SG Associates, we are a firm of Executive Search Consultants Comments: I am the most recent addition to the SSG Executive Committee and am the new Treasurer. I will, therefore, be running the finances for this trip! I have a background in various sectors of the financial world around the world but now run my company of Search Consultants. This will be my first trip with SSG and I am very excited about meeting all the Young People and other volunteers on the trip. I am a keen skier and look forward to sharing that with you all. Lives: Salcombe, Devon Likes: Powerboats, Para-Gliding, Skiing, Honey our Labrador Puppy Dislikes: Going slowly Occupation: Run a company called BanaraShark Racing and I build and race powerboats. Comments: Although I am busy running my powerboats, I have also had time to paraglide around Europe, and learn to drive everything from Lorries to Motorbikes and all sorts of boats. I am also a BASI qualified ski instructor (up for some volunteer instruction??). I heard about the Charity from Mandy Cox (we are getting married in May 09) and I am looking forward to coming on this trip - it will be my first - and I hope that Ben looks after me well! YP: Ben |

I am also a very keen skier and I take every opportunity to hit the slopes. This is my third trip with SSG and I have enjoyed the others enormously. I have also been involved in helping with the organisation of the charity with the committee and will be running the evening entertainments with Rachel for this trip. Occupation: Group Sales Development Manager, Harper Collins Comments: I am 28 and have been living in London for three years now, although I am a Northerner by birth. I started skiing when I was 14 and have been every year since - nothing makes me happier than fondue, skiing and a glass of vin chaud! This will be my first trip and I am really looking forward to it as I will be able to show people why I love the mountains, especially to people who haven't had the opportunity before. YP: Raffy |

Occupation: Change Management for Royal Mail Comments: I grew up in Birmingham but have been living in London for 3 years now. My first experience of skiing was when I was 6 years old but I did spend much of my time asleep on the side of the mountain then! Not one to be deterred, I have been crazy about skiing ever since. In my spare time I dabble in a bit of amateur dramatics and attempt to stay fit... I say attempt because my last serious exercise endeavour saw me hobbling for a week afterwards! I am very excited about the trip and hope everyone will come back as enthusiastic about skiing as I am! YP: Catriona |
