has been using the National Sports Centre for the Disabled in Winter Park, Colorado (USA) for several years now. They offer the best Disabled Ski facilities in the World. Your YP will be put on some form of adaptive ski equipment and that depends on their level of disability and mobility. There are several photos in these information pages that show you the different types of skiing. While they are off skiing, you have an opportunity to ski with other volunteers or with any of the YPs.

With the NSCD being located in Colorado, there is a fair bit of travelling to get there and back. We fly from Heathrow Airport with BA and fly direct to Denver. It is a 9 hour flight and you can watch 3 movies if you wish! We are met by the Lakewood Police Department who will pick us up in one of their buses and take us to Winter Park, a journey lasting upto 2 hours. So as you can see, you will need your patience, a good book and your ipod!

We are accommodated in the town of Winter Park which is a 10 minute bus ride from the NSCD and the slopes. We have always used a hotel called "The Viking Lodge" for our stays but we are open to trying new and exciting venues if necessary. We may be trying the Best Western in 2008. You will have a room, to share with your YP, and there will be a meeting space or room provided for us all to chat. There are some shops in the town too but they cover Ski equipment, general convenience stores and clothing stores. The hotel has a hot-tub to relax in at the end of the day and a hot chocolate machine to warm you up!

I have included links to each of the NSCD and Winter Park so that you can find out more about what each has to offer, where they are, what facilities they have and what else they do.
